Like Spittle From a Cloud, Amassed Resentment Counting Ounce and Pound
One of these days things might settle down enough that I might actually be able to post something. Well, besides this one, that is.
In the meantime, please feel free to discuss the merits/disappointments of the new Shins album and whether or not listening to them did indeed change your life...

i haven't heard the new shins... but i know that time off from the blogverse is healthy and good for you
see you soon
hmmm... i'm torn over the shins... Some songs sound good, but they tend to sound dull over time. Like Sea Legs. Initially I though, "wow, just like the Smiths!", and then after a few good listens, I thought "wow, just like the Smiths." Music like that doesn't have staying power. It's too easy on the ears right at the first go, and then you get over it. Agree or no?
Did The Shins change my life? Well, if "changing life" means that after I heard them I ended up with a couple of albums in my collection, then sure...
Ok, I'm not going to lie. I'm one of those people that watched Garden State and next thing I knew I had a few Shins albums like I was some kind of indy-pop hipster who had been following them for years. With the new album I was concerned how the instant commercial popularity would affect their artistry ('cuz you know, I've been following them for years and all), but actually I wasn't too disappointed. Do I like Wincing as much as Inverted or Chutes? I don't know. I really liked those two albums, so it may be impossible to compare. I guess I have to ask myself if I would like Wincing had I never heard its precursors, and for that I would have to say "yes." Sure, there are some weak moments, but there are some pretty good tracks as well. The album is still relatively new to me, but for right now I am digging Turn On Me, Red Rabbits, Girl Sailor, and (as you mentioned, SLG) Sea Legs. I didn't hear the Smiths the first time around, but I just listened to the album again this morning and I can see the comparison. I can totally agree that they are very easy on the ears, but I guess that is what I liked about Inverted. Its hypnotic melodies just kind of suck you in. I haven't gotten sick of them yet, but perhaps in time they will become dated (that's so '00s!). We'll see, I guess.
Hey, Sass! I agree time off can be good, especially when getting blogger's block, but I've actually had stuff to write but found myself with no time to actually post it. Maybe if I get some time today or tomorrow I will post a quick (yeah right, me?) summary of what's been going on in johnworld.
I don't think the new Shins album is that bad, but I would pick up Oh, Inverted World! or Chutes too Narrow first if you don't already have them. But that's just my opinion...
